Living Vibrantly: Birthday Joys, Stylish Outfits, and Embracing My Hearing Journey
The smiling author stands radiantly in front of the camera, dressed in a coordinated outfit complemented by stylish gold sandals and a chic gold purse.
As I settle into my mid-60s and navigate this ongoing journey with hearing loss, I’m more committed than ever to living a purposeful, beautiful, and engaging life. When I participate in events related to hearing loss, I discover parts of myself I once hid—from myself and others. Each experience, whether it’s a challenge or a celebration, reminds me to keep learning, feel included, advocate boldly, choose uplifting company, and—most of all—live vibrantly and joyfully!
That means doing what lights me up: dressing to impress (myself first!), vibing at music festivals or concerts, delighting in outdoor gatherings, and always making sure my dining experiences are accessible and enjoyable. Through it all, I’m learning the power of showing myself grace. And I’d love for you to reflect: what are you doing that helps you live your most joyful, inclusive, and authentic life?

A Birthday to Remember: Style, Laughter, and New Connections
A couple stands by a 1950s Thunderbird at a car show. The husband smiles at the camera while the author, in vintage attire, leans against the car joyfully. A poster of similar cars enhances the nostalgic atmosphere.
A couple of weekends ago, I celebrated my birthday in true vibrant fashion! The festivities kicked off at an amazing car show—imagine fabulous hors d’oeuvres, tasty drinks, friendly faces, and top-notch networking. I wore a cute top with a fun design, wide-leg pants, and a sharp blazer. I felt SO cute and received so many compliments! These little joys—from thoughtful gifts to great dining—had me asking, what more could a girl want?
A wall features a screen displaying the name "Latoya Jackson" (yes, MJ's sister) against a dark background, while a group of people gazes attentively at the screen.
The next evening, we went to a dinner show, and let me tell you: the food was exceptional! I rocked blue jeans with a classy sheer top, a fuzzy lightweight jacket, and carried my blue jean purse. Pro tip: if you’re in LA, the Catalina Grill and Jazz Club is a must. My only bummer? My rechargeable hearing aids ran out of battery! I thought I’d be able to wing it since I was in the second row with mics in use… nope! The guest of honor, Latoya Jackson, had such a high-pitched voice, I couldn’t hear her well at all, while the moderator was loud enough—but let’s be honest, I wasn’t there for him! It was at this point, I became mindful of the situation, I could either, choose to be upset and frustrated or I could understand that things happens and make the most of it. Which is what I did, I took in what I could hear and my hubby was able to keep me posted on what was just said. I made the most of my evening, but was happy when it ended.
The author steps out in a cozy, stylish outfit: an oversized top, matching bottoms, as she heads to dinner, embodying comfort and cuteness.
Of course, the celebration continued! We dined at H&H Brazilian Steakhouse in Beverly Hills—a wonderful restaurant. I wore a real satin pants suit (the feel was amazing!), and while some parts of the restaurant were noisy, we managed to get a quieter, well-lit table, perfect for a Before You Go…
A cluster of colorful balloons creates a cheerful atmosphere, with red, blue, yellow, green, and purple hues floating against a simple background.
